This opening book to the Infernal devices trilogy, tells about a seventeen year-old girl , Tessa gray and two boys of the same age Will Herondale and James Carstairs, And the series also features several downworlders ( faeries, werewolves, vampires and warlocks) and other shadowhunters in the London institute . The milieu of the series is London , in the year 1878.
I would say that it's genre would be fantasy, romance and mystery , and the unique way it is written makes the reader feel like they were really in the 1800's .
This series is a prequel to The Mortal Instruments series which tells about the descendants of the characters of this series.
the book starts with Tessa's arrival to London from new york , only to discover she that she can not find her brother . her brother told her to come to london , but when she was at the docks he was nowhere to be seen. Instead a tall man with a black coat told her her brother had sent him. then tessa is introduced to the very suspicious women called "the dark sisters" who claim to want to help her find her brother.
Tessa knows there is something off about them , but she goes with them anyway.
Cassandra Clare is a very talented writer, and i encourage you to read some other books of hers, including The Mortal Instruments, the bane Chronicles , The Magisterium , the Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and more.
